Patricia Urquiola

Patricia Urquiola she was born in Oviedo in Spain. She studied at Madrid Technical University, and then at the corresponding institution in Milan, where she graduated in architecture under Achille Castiglioni. From ‘90 to ‘92, she worked as assistant for the courses held by Castiglioni both at Milan Technical University and at the ENSCI, Paris.

She was appointed manager of the product development office for De Padova, where she worked with Vico Magistretti, and later she became the director of the design group at the Lissoni Associati studio. In 2001 she opened her own design studio, where she works on design, architecture and exhibition layout, designing stands and showrooms for Knoll, Moroso, Molteni and Somma. In the field of product design, she has created objetcs for Alessi, B&B, Foscarini and Moroso. In 2003 she won the “Best system” prize for the Fjord collection manufactured by Moroso, and she was “Designer of the Year” by Elle Deco International Design Awards.

She created for San Lorenzo POMPON, originally the innovative collier was a red lace which ended with two singing pompon, a memory of her past infancy in Basque. Her silver pompon are the remembrance of those that closes the heavy woollen pullovers that grandmas used to knit. Her necklace arises from affection, a feeling which should accompany a jewel, without ever separating, until the found of a new love.
